AI Engineer · Educator · NVIDIA Ambassador
I'm Majid — an NVIDIA Ambassador, Assistant Professor at Utah Valley University, and Principal AI Architect at the Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy. I lead real-world AI work in EdTech, simulation training, drone imaging, and public-sector data, and mentor students end-to-end on the same projects.

About
Nearly 20 years in academia — engineering through CS Ph.D., postdoc, and faculty — still focused on students and community.

I lead real-world AI work — government systems, EdTech, drone imaging, synthetic data — and mentor students at no cost. I served as technical lead on a $1M USHE drone-imaging initiative for wind-turbine maintenance and collaborate with Utah agencies, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and UPenn.
I give back through NVIDIA DLI workshops, One-U Responsible AI, and public-sector architecture — connecting students to Silicon Slopes and Utah's tech ecosystem.

Portfolio
Representative builds across EdTech, simulation, agents, drones, public-sector data, and custom AI.
Smarter learning at scale
Intelligent tutoring patterns, LLM-assisted grading workflows, adaptive learning paths, and analytics for institutions and training programs.
Practice when the real thing is costly
Immersive scenarios for firefighters, nursing, and high-stakes fields — dynamic AI-driven patients, incidents, and debriefs. Safe, repeatable, and scalable.
Voice-first mental wellness support
A voice-mode AI companion grounded in psychological science. Builds a private profile of each client over time, delivers personalized check-ins, and supports mental wellness through evidence-based conversational techniques.
End-to-end intelligent ops
Multi-agent systems that coordinate specialist models and tools to automate complex business processes with human oversight.
$1M USHE-funded research
Technical lead on a USHE-funded drone imaging initiative for wind-turbine maintenance — RGB/thermal capture, 3D reconstruction, and path planning. Postdoctoral research with industry-relevant published results.
Habits, privacy, and support
A personalized AI that builds a private knowledge base from spending and check-ins — a copilot for people strengthening money habits, including compulsive spending and related behavioral challenges.
Automation
Intelligent pipelines with n8n — tools, APIs, and models orchestrated to run around the clock.
Drag-and-drop with n8n — branching, loops, error handling, and approvals.
LLM calls, RAG, sentiment, and classification in the pipeline.
Webhooks, schedules, monitoring, retries, and audit trails.
Interactive
Products I ship — an AI financial assistant and a course-grounded teaching assistant.
Finance & bookkeeping
Conversational assistant for bookkeeping, organized records, and finance workflows — full product experience with companies, ledger, and documents. Not a replacement for licensed professionals where required.
CS 4720R course
Course-grounded Q&A for AI Business and Tech Solutions — Canvas-aligned context and a dedicated assistant, not a generic chat window.
Collaboration
Collaboration with professionals across business, software engineering, and the Silicon Slopes technology community.
Industry & community
Live pulse
Liquid, AI-focused public equities—infrastructure, platforms, and security. Not a recommendation; many AI leaders are still private. Refreshed about every minute. Not investment advice.
Tools I work with
NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute
I'm an NVIDIA DLI Certified Instructor and Ambassador. I deliver hands-on workshops aligned with NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute training — free for students at participating universities, with GPU-accelerated labs and certificates of completion where available.
~8 hours (typical DLI workshop)
Train neural networks for classification and detection with hands-on PyTorch labs on GPU-accelerated cloud instances.
Hands-on lab
Build and deploy edge AI prototypes — ideal for robotics and IoT-focused programs.
Applied GenAI
Retrieval-augmented generation, prompt patterns, and safe deployment of LLM-powered assistants.
Foundations
Diffusion and generative fundamentals with practical exercises — aligned with industry demand.
Available for universities worldwide. Student workshops are offered at no charge to students; logistics vary by institution.
Bridging academia & industry
I design new AI courses to close the gap between what universities teach and what industry needs. One example: an innovation and entrepreneurship course focused on Education Technology. Students discover real problems in K-12 and higher education, propose AI-powered solutions, build working prototypes using no-code tools (cloud-hosted n8n), and pitch their EdTech startup to mentors and judges. No programming experience required — co-taught by a computer scientist and an education expert, with mentoring and guest lectures from UVU's Baugh Entrepreneurship Institute.
Public sector
As Principal AI Architect at the Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy (Nov 2024 — Present), I lead state-level collaborations with Utah agencies. Students work alongside me on these initiatives — gaining hands-on public-sector AI experience.
AI applied to data governance and privacy management — improving compliance efficiency and strengthening transparency and public trust.
AI-driven solutions that reduce manual review time and expand secure access to data for research and policy innovation.
Helping Utah build a modern, responsible data foundation that supports research while safeguarding citizens.
Building additional AI solutions for more Utah departments — intelligent automation and data-driven decision-making at scale.
Responsible, privacy-preserving AI partnerships with state and local agencies.
Mentorship
I recruit student interns and lead them on real-world AI projects — from architecture to deployment — at no cost to them. Multiple projects in flight at any given time.
Fully online · rolling intake
If you want real-world AI engineering experience — not only coursework — reach out. You'll work alongside me and the team on production-minded tasks: LLMs and RAG, agentic workflows, cloud integrations, and domain projects that ship.

AI Utah, Silicon Slopes & Utah tech
I contribute to AI Utah — Utah's AI user group and community hub for practitioners, events, and collaboration (including programs like AI Utah 100). I show up, bring students, and help them plug into that network.
I'm also active in Silicon Slopes, the nonprofit helping Utah founders grow — connecting learners with founders, hiring managers, and collaborators across the broader tech ecosystem.
Contact
Consulting, workshops, mentorship, or a research collaboration — send a message and I'll respond promptly.
Production AI work — LLM-powered apps, agentic workflows, EdTech, simulation training, drone & 3D imaging, and public-sector data systems. I bring student teams into many engagements as part of the mentorship program.
I deliver hands-on workshops aligned with NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute standards — GPU-accelerated cloud labs, real-world exercises, and DLI-style certificates of completion. On-campus sessions are free for students at participating universities.
Email me with a short note about your background and what you'd like to learn — Python and curiosity are a plus, formal experience is not required. Internships are fully online, on a rolling intake, and there's no cost to students.
Yes. I integrate with AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem, and hybrid setups. My work spans Python, PyTorch, LangChain, Next.js, n8n, and modern cloud-native architectures.
We start with a discovery conversation to understand your goals and constraints. From there I propose a phased plan — usually a focused proof-of-concept first, then iteration toward production deployment with ongoing support.
Security and privacy are core to every engagement. I build with encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access, audit logging, and alignment with frameworks like HIPAA, FERPA, and state data-privacy regulations — especially relevant in my Utah public-sector work.
